In Motion Dance Company is a performing group for dancers entering 7th and 8th grade. The focus of this company is to provide dancers with strong and versatile technique, in depth creative processing skills, and more opportunities on stage. The company focuses on modern and ballet technique, as well as improvisation and composition. Classes are taught by Tanner Dance faculty and a variety of guest artists. Participation is by audition only.

All dancers entering 7th and 8th grade are eligible to audition for In Motion Dance Company, including dancers who are not currently enrolled in classes at Tanner Dance. The audition will include technique and improvisation. Dancers must wear a solid black leotard and tights with hair neatly pulled back.

COMPANY REQUIREMENTS

SUMMER INTENSIVE

Company members must be available for the summer intensive August 7 – 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Classes include ballet barre, leaps and turns, and the creation of a new company piece that will be performed throughout the year.

Fall Session: August 22 – December 5, 2017

Spring Session: January 2 – May 19, 2018

GUEST ARTISTS AND PERFORMANCES

In Motion Dance Company will perform in several events throughout the year at multiple venues. Company members for 2017-2018 will have the opportunity to work with a variety of guest artists, including Ursula Perry, professional dancer with Repertory Dance Theatre.

TUITION

Tuition cost for In Motion is $886 for dancers concurrently enrolled in Children’s Dance Theatre. For dancers involved only in In Motion, tuition is $1270. Monthly installment plans are available.

Momentum Dance Company & Tipping Point Dance Company

Placement is based on the dancer’s level of technical ability, artistic maturity and professionalism. The audition will include contemporary technique, phrase work and composition. Dancers must wear a solid black leotard, tights or leggings and hair neatly pulled back.

MOMENTUM DANCE COMPANY – Intermediate Level

Momentum Dance Company is for dancers entering 9th-12th grade. The focus is on building technical strength in contemporary dance forms: correct alignment, agility, flexibility, balance and clarity of movement qualities. Dancers in Momentum will expand their choreographic skills and develop stage presence through multiple performing opportunities. Classes are taught by Tanner Dance faculty and professional guest artists. Participation is by audition only.

TIPPING POINT DANCE COMPANY – Advanced Level

Tipping Point Dance Company is for advanced high school dancers interested in additional technical training, creative expansion and performing experiences. Company members are exposed to multiple dance genres and a variety of guest artists: professional dancers, choreographers and university professors. Tipping Point performs several times throughout the year, culminating in a showcase featuring the dancers’ own choreography. In addition, Tipping Point dancers expand their knowledge of movement through advocacy opportunities, developing community arts projects, and experiencing emerging trends in contemporary dance. Participation is by audition only. Dancers must be committed to a rigorous level of classes, rehearsals and performances.

WORKSHOPS & PERFORMANCES

The Utah Dance Festival, hosted by the Utah Dance Education Organization, takes place during the spring session. This festival includes a full day of master classes and performances, and an opportunity for the dancers to have their own choreography professionally adjudicated.

Tipping Point performances include the annual Tanner Dance events Ring Around the Rose and In Accord, the Momentum Dance Company showcase, and the Tipping Point Dance Company showcase.

TUITION

Tuition cost for Tipping Point is $1064 for dancers concurrently enrolled in the Children’s Dance Theatre. For dancers involved only in Tipping Point, tuition is $1,706. Monthly installment plans are available.
